Here at Treasured Archives, we are pretty excited about our growth over the past year. Today we reached 26,000 views on just one of our many YouTube videos. How to Transfer Your MiniDV Tapes to Digital or DVD.

We truly hope that we have been able to help at least a few of those viewers save their precious memories by digitizing them into a medium that carries them forward instead of leaving them in a shoebox forgotten.

We are grateful to our audience and encouraged by their comments.  Thank you for your support!

You have learned so much since you started on your journey to research your heritage.  You've probably surprised yourself at the things you've been able to uncover through the technologies you had to learn.  You've broken walls that you thought you'd never be able to break to reveal a past in your roots you never would have imagined.  You have so much to pass on to your following generations!  Be proud!

But don't stop there.  Compile your research, your pictures, and use the technologies we have today to capture the last generation and your generation.  We can capture family and their stories on video now so easily using a myriad of simple techniques.  Smartphones, camcorders, or even many of our photography cameras all have the capability to capture video.  And if a picture paints a thousand words, thinks of what 24 pictures per second paints!

Capture the family stories told by those who lived them.  Those people and those stories are the roots of the future.  Give future family genealogists a treat.  Learn just a little more technology and give them your story in video.  Yes, you can!

Part 13 of our ongoing series is something unexpected.  Let's say you have a grandfather that served in the American Revolutionary War.  If you know which regiment he served, you could add his travels through the colonies using this animation.

This video shows you where to find it, how to get your copy and how to add it to your Family History Video. Click here.

This year I'm going to...

So many resolutions!! So little time!!  So which resolution will lasts beyond 2015?  What transcends a year in our lives?  THAT’S worth expending some time and effort. Collecting the family history and passing it on lasts not only beyond February or March 2015 but beyond our lifetime!

What if you could ask your great-great grandfather what his resolutions for 1915 were?  What if you could see his expression as he told you about them? Does his smile come easily?  Is his disposition open and friendly or closed and quiet?  Does he count them off with his fingers just like you do? What if his laugh while remembering his unmet resolutions of 1914 reminded you of your father’s laugh?  What if you could compare New Year’s resolutions lists –his and yours- one time?  THAT’S the gift you can give to your great-great-grandchildren!

They didn’t have video capabilities 3 generations ago.  We do now.  Let’s use it!

Let’s resolve that this is the year that we compile our family history video to be passed on to our generations to come!
